Just when I thought I could not hate people any more today:

Thanks for being in DEFAULT MODE BOY, assholes at ADV Films.
This is the cover art for Princess Tutu vol. 5. It is a girl's show. It does, in fact, have some FUCKING ANNOYING fanservice, which I blame on a creepy director, but I do rather like it. AND IT'S A YOUNG GIRL'S SHOW, NOT A GODDAMN DATING SIM.
I would be EMBARASSED to buy this at a store. It looks like kiddy-fiddling shite.
I swear to god, I will verbally punch the shit out of the first person who offers another comment on "sexism is everywhere." THAT'S THE PROBLEM. It's disgusting, and it's wrong, and it's so ingrained it's considered NORMAL.
Goddamit, world.

I like Princess Tutu, but this cover art? Not so much.
And yeah that so looks like kiddie Pron.
That said...
WTF?! I thought Princess Tutu was about a duckling that changed into a girl, with some ballet thrown in. That ad doens't even comes close to any of those ideas!
And people wonder why I'm starting to hate anime...

The central image is still the same, but they dungeonized it for the US version. o_O
And that is seriously creepy cover art. It seriously looks like something that would be the "viewable" part of the evidence in an episode of SVU.
If this were an American childrens' novel or TV show, they'd probably be parents up in arms about it like you are.

Still hatin' people.
Still have a copy of that on the wall near my desk. Just in case I, y'know, forget.
Kinda makes me glad I don't watch as much anime as formerly I did. Should we boycott all future releases from ADV or is that a little extreme? I ask because honestly, I don't feel comfortable buying product from a company that uses this kind of art to sell product.
Boy culture. Bleah.
would be EMBARASSED to buy this at a store.
Please, Please, PLEASE, don't stop. Think you could give the video game industry a solid kick in the shins too?
On the cover of this month’s PLAY magazine is the usual artwork splash of the next up-and-coming hot video game. One of the three characters pictured is the token video game babe. She comes complete with grotesquely large chest and a seat-less skirt. She’s also in one of those spine-twisting poses that enables her to show off both of the above on a two dimensional page. I like video games and all, but I’d be embarrassed to purchase that at a store.
No wonder so few females play video games. Please correct me if I’m outta line here, but I suspect they feel the same level of discomfort with that type of image as I did getting a look at Green Lantern’s rear end.
Hurt ‘em some more….they’re still twitching.
PS..appologies for the thread hijack.
If there is a place Maho does NOT belong,it's in the children's section.
[though I do admit, I've seen Mahoromatic's anime, which is pretty much about Existentialism and Boobies. Oh, Gainax. It's like they tried to make it a worthwhile, emotional story, but couldn't get away from smutosphere, as personified by the kids teacher.... it's quite a bizarre show to watch for that reason.]
Which I have said every time the nice people have tried to convince me to re-up. No thanks, I'll gladly give you the extra 10% to keep your magazine out of my box. (Pun intended, look away, gentler readers.)
Fanservice seems to have embedded itself in all aspects of japanese animation nowadays. What was risque on an OVA for a short fanservice sequence in the 80's now makes up entire episodes of late night anime, and occasional occurences on some prime time shows [ie-family hour].
**shudder**
Why would ADV pick this show up anyway? It doesn't seem like their usual thing at ALL.
Sincerely, a Princess Tutu fan.
As for the character on the cover, I do the imagery suits her well, as a ballet dancer, and trapped in a position as the Raven's daughter. The series may be cute, but it has quite a dark compelling side to it too.
The costume is from Carmen here is a quote from http://www.balletmet.org/Notes/Carmen.h
"... From the midst of the group emerge one man and one woman whom Fate binds together, sealing their destiny with a flower."
Really if she was wearing her usual leotard that she does in the show would you complain. The only thing different is there is lace and ribbon.
It might not be needed but in the first book of Inuyasha did the centipede need to be topless. Sakura from card Captors wore an array of short outfits. And goodness isn't Ariel (the little mermaid) dressed a little skampy if taken out of context (she is sixteen after all).
Myself I find this picture to be a TASTEFUL work of visual symbolism and above all just a well done piece of art. And if it's so bad shouldn't we be banning children's dance performances, I've seen worse come from my school's dance class (grade 6-10).
You troll me again, and I will get your ISP banned. Use your sockpuppet journal to bitch, get it?
