In case you've been reading this blog, and wondered who the heck Tom Artis was, and why I keep asking you to send his family a bit of money, here's why:
Because, as Dan Vado of Slave Labor Graphics said, any one of us in comics) could be Tom Artis. Us folks who make the comics are often and mostly one step away from a financial Katrina. Tom Artis was a comics artist who worked mainly for Marvel and DC through the 80's and early '90's. His best-known work was the beloved Tailgunner Jo from DC.
Tom's death early this month from complications of diabetes left a wife, Kim, and two kids, Hope and Duecalion. They need money to keep their home (which Tom lived in since he was three years old) and fix it up, to pay bills that piled up while Kim cared for Tom for most of the last year.
We are all Tom Artis.--Dan Vado

Here's some ways to help:

Colleen Doran's auction of "Lost Souls" cover art to benefit Tom Artis' wife and children, ends in 13 hours from this post.
Auction's OVER and the art went for $305!1 WOW!

And, if you haven't yet, because you were waiting for payday, you can still send a check!
Make checks or money orders out to:
The Tom TC Artis and Family Memorial Fund
Send that dough to:

Marine Bank
Attn: Gale Krueger
1401 North Dirksen Parkway
Springfield, IL 62702

You could also send well-wrapped cash. The thing is to send what you can. If money's impossible (and I sure understand impossible, being someone who's rolled pennies to buy ramen), please spread this post by linking or cut-and-pasting around as much as you can.
